SERIES SUMMARY: Crime documentary which uses forensic science and technology to solve real cases. Each episode follows a case from 911 call to computer reenactment.
WHAT WE SEE: The show does a good job of highlighting both black and white detectives. However, the only black crime scene specialist is in Indianapolis, where there are no featured black detectives. Also black, particularly black male, victims remain faceless, while humiliating shots are displayed multiple times.
• Total Black Characters: There are a variety of Black Detectives featured on this documentary.
• Stereotypical Black Characters: The show often features Black suspects and victims in various stereotypical scenarios.
• Stereotypes Scenes Most scenes involving suspects, victims, and witnesses take place where urban decay is prominent.
• Positive Black Role Models multiple black males featured as authority figures (detecives). Some of that positivity is negated by their percieved ‘threat’ to the ‘black community’.
