On March 22, 2011, Chris Brown allegedly threw a violent tantrum. Remember back in grade school when they taught you to ask the who, what, when, where, why and how questions? Let’s try that now. Who saw this alleged tantrum? No one. He was alone in his dressing room. What happened? No one knows. They say he threw an object out of a window, but perhaps it slipped. Or maybe he threw it at the wall and missed. Who knows? Oh that’s right, no one. When did it happen? On a commercial break between sets and after a contentious interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America at the Times Square Studios. According to no one, that’s when the “damaged” window appeared and of course he was provoked. Where did it happen? That is the only thing no one is certain of. There is a damaged window there to mark the spot. How did it happen? Violently of course. After all, no one could have broken a window. They are so sturdy and all. Of course he broke the window and now he has apologized for his behavior.
Brown says he was “thrown off” by Robin’s line of questioning—and said she only brought up the Rihanna incident in an effort to “exploit me.” The singer says he then exploded backstage “to release the anger that I had inside me,” adding that “I got very emotional and I apologize for that.”
Yes, this young man needs to keep his cool and nobody will make excuses for him.
The truth of the matter and the heart of the problem is that when it comes to the media, they feel good about what happened. That’s their job nowadays to get people to lose their cool. When it happens, they’re backstage giving high-fives, “Job well done.”
Rhianna also had to avoid questions about Chris Brown during an interview with Fabulous magazine. When the interviewer persisted, Rhianna’s clearly annoyed response was “Excuse me? You obviously want to talk about Chris Brown. I don’t.”
After she thought about the power of the press in her profession, Rihanna later circled back to the irrelevant issue, but with a more general approach, told the he magazine that she’s just trying to continue on with her life and leave history in the past. “I wanted people to move on from it, [because] the last big thing they know about me is that night,” she continued. “And I don’t want that to be what people define me as.”
The sad thing: you have two young black kids trying to stay positive and move on from an unfortunate incident in their lives. However the media doesn’t quite understand that. The media needs to let go of that incident. It’s in the past and should stay there. They are both trying to move on, but people can’t let it go. Why do the media keep drama going? Some say it’s about ratings. I say it’s a more sinister explanation. The reason the media won’t respect their wishes and move on is that they want to paint these two as a modern day Ike and Tina Turner. Right now, VH1 is showing the movie What’s Love Got to Do with It as I write this. They want to make them “Poster Children” for domestic violence. That is the reason they invite them on their shows and call them for interviews. Sure, the pretense is to further their careers, but then they get blindsided just to keep the issue in the forefront of the public’s mind. So no matter how far we get from the issue, they can keep bringing it up. So when you think of domestic violence, you think of Chris Brown. So they can make jokes about it, like they did for Ike Turner. (Eat the Cake Anna Mae!) So you forget about the many white men in the entertainment field who abuse, even kill, women. Someone says Robert Blake; the public sees the cute cheeked “Micky” of the little rascals. I see his wife shot dead in his car. Someone says “Clint Eastwood” and the public thinks of him as the Man who dared them to: make their day. I think of many children he forced Sondra Locke to abort. Hell, Lindsey Lohan’s dad can’t even post bail for her because he has been locked up for domestic violence. But I can guarantee ten years from now, he won’t be known as a women abuser, if known at all. There have been many others but the media lets their issues go into the dark past so the negative issue is not tied to that individual. But this man can’t even promote his new album because of something that happened 760 days ago. Do you know what you were doing 760 days ago? Do you even want to remember? How do you feel about that one drunken uncle that keeps asking you about your ex at the family reunion? Shame on Robin Roberts for going there. I know many think she was just doing her job and asking the tough questions that the public wants the answers to. No. The crowd was there to see him perform. She asked those questions because her producer told her to. Trust me, the producer has an agenda and the agenda is to create new poster children for domestic violence.
Get a life people. Tell us where to get jobs, and how to get and stay healthy. Tell us how and who to help. Do something news worthy.
Still, I can’t help but think that if he is the monster deserving of this type of media attention, he would have thrown an object through Robin Roberts.
