Is the media using the disease card for Charlie Sheen?

Is the media using the disease card for Charlie Sheen?

The recent behavior of actor Charlie Sheen has led to some to suggest he has bipolar disorder. Why is it that every time certain celebrities act stupid they bring out the disease card?  Does Blue Cross cover idiocy under major medical?   Flava Flav has been smoking crack and acting like Charlie sheen for years, but nobody ever diagnosed him with celebrity-strand bipolar disorder.  To them, he is just another crazy n***a.

Whether or not Sheen does have a mental illness, the media coverage has told us the most important thing about the way society sees mental health issues. They pick and choose special times to use the disease card.

When you’re special and act stupidly there has to be a reason for why you’re acting that that way.  There is no way special people can just be stupid, unless they happen to be black.  Because when you are black and act stupid, to the media that’s normal.  That’s just how n****s are, it’s in their genes.

This law of social stupidity is not limited to minstrel acts like Flava Flav.  Consider how the media treated Chris Brown.  Here a clean-cut, talented 19-year-old kid with a bright career ahead of him makes a mistake.  He let his anger get the best of him and he lost control.  The media tore him down.  He went to jail and is now on probation, which of course he deserved because no one should ever hit a woman.  When the media tore him down, he lost work and untold millions of dollars after his first negative issue; they never made any excuses for his bad behavior, not even stating he was a teenager.    But Charlie on the other hand, is a grown-ass man who didn’t just beat up his girlfriend, but has history of abusing women and even shot one of his ex-wives. The most the penal system gave him was probation with no time in jail, and the media continues to kiss his woman-abusing crack-head ass.  Oops.  He is special so he is not a crack head, he is a drug addict.  He didn’t even lose his job until he called out his bosses.  He has been bolstered by the attention, and he just keeps getting more money and more chances. People feel sorry for him. The media puts experts from the mental health field on TV to discuss diseases, to tell us he is bipolar.

Bipolar!  Whatever?   The bottom line is he is a drug addict who has gotten away with a lot of shit.  He has been abusing women since high school and getting slapped on the wrist.  He is not going to stop now that instead of a slap on the wrist he gets a pat on the back.

If this was Will Smith, would they give him a second, third, or fourth chance then finally declare that “he just can’t help it?”  Probably, Will makes money for Hollywood.  However, the media would use the incident to profile some stereotypical traits in black people.   Some video  from the Smith family’s home security system showing Jada rolling her neck and using some Matrix moves to kick his ass to show that even rich pretty philanthropist black women have bad attitudes and lack femininity. Instead of focusing on mental diseases the focus would be how domestic violence is rampant in the black community.   They wouldn’t be bringing up this disease card to take the attention off the real issue.

The real issue is how the media for years made excuses for Charlie Sheen, even went out of their way to make the women Charlie abused look like it was their fault, that they were crazy hysterical women with mental problems who provoked Charlie. Same playbook the media use to make Oksana Grigorieva look like a gold digger who deserves to be punched by Mel Gibson while she was holding their child. (Oops! I got off the subject; I’ll deal with Mel Gibson in another blog.)  The point here is, instead of trying to control the image of these “good ol boys” when they mess up, get them help right away.  Stop making excuses for their behavior. Stop using the disease card and the alcohol card. They are dumb ignorant fools, period.  If the media don’t use the mental disease card for Flava Flav then nobody gets to use it. Because you have  to have some mental issues being 52 years old walking around wearing a Viking helmet, with a big clock hanging from your neck while yelling “Yeah Boy “

The next time Charlie abuses a woman (there will be a next time) don’t blame the woman. If Charlie shoots his girl, don’t tell us it was an accident.  If Charlie pulls a knife and threatens to kill his wife, don’t tell us it’s a disorder.   Enough with the excuses! Somebody should have locked him up a long time ago. He is a woman abuser with a violent temper.  No one wants to talk about this.

Personally, I like his show “Two and a Half Men.”   I understand he has a strange charm about himself. But it is time for the media to stop the madness.
