In Response to the E-mails
To non-racist white people by Kristal Moore
In response to the e-mails from YAAAMS' visitors who have stated that they
were not racist, YAAAMS is not advocating that all white people are
racist. We believe that there are more non-racist white people than racist
white people. YAAAMS deals with how the media covers the
African-American community differently. However, we also believe
that many times, the media manipulates some non-racist people as well. For
example, when the media reports on police brutality, the stories that are
aired usually involved white cops and black victims-when in reality, there
are white people who have been victims of police brutality along with
African Americans. There are also cases where black police officers
have been accused of police brutality. Also, when a black person is
complaining about injustices, whether it is police brutality, government
wrong doings etc., the black person that is complaining is stating that a
specific entity is treating them in a racist manner, and not that
"all white people are racist.
Another thing the media manipulates is the perception of black leadership
and black people. There are over 30 million black people in this country,
and just because the media shows a black leader and thousands blacks
following him, this does not mean that all black people agree with that
particular leader. Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, and Al Sharpton are not
the only black leaders in our society. They are just the ones that get the
media's attention, and not all blacks follow them. Many blacks have
their own leaders, and in some cases, many blacks choose not to follow
anyone. However, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Farrakhan, and Mr. Sharpton have
the right to say whatever they feel necessary and their followers have the
right to follow them, and those who oppose them also have that right.
Nevertheless, the media does not have the right to manipulate and make it
look as if all black people do is sit around and wait for their commands.
